Somebody Else

It was a full moon last night

And I couldn’t sleep

Perhaps the moon was too bright

The sky was too deep

I drank a chamomile brew

And strummed my guitar

But I kept thinking of you

And how great you are

Your voice entrances and charms

And I feel as though

If I had you in my arms

I’d never let go

I can’t resist your allure

I’m under a spell

It’s such a pity that you’re

Involved with somebody else

Somebody else takes you to dinner

Somebody else heeds your complaints

Somebody else your private sinner

Somebody else your private saint

Somebody else gets all your kisses

Somebody else enjoys your smells

Somebody else my nemesis is

Always somebody else

Each time you mention his name

It makes my heart sink

I try to act all the same

And not even blink

It gets me though every time

But what can I do?

All this is silly ‘cause I’m

Involved with someone else too

Somebody else in all my pictures

Somebody else thinks I’m sublime

Somebody else imposes strictures

Somebody else takes up my time

Somebody else adds to my misery

Somebody else drains all my wells

Somebody else my curse. Why is there

Always somebody else?

So should I bid you adieu

Or bid all I got?

I think I’m perfect for you

Or maybe I’m not

But if your current affair

Is not without flaws

I feel it just isn’t fair

To not try merely because

Somebody else had met us sooner

Somebody else has been there first

Somebody else good for a nooner

Somebody else has seen our worst

Somebody else without us lonely

Somebody else can’t take farewells

Somebody else I wish if only

There was nobody else
